Dismaland Bemusement Park

Dismaland Bemusement Park

Is tourism all about fun or is there something more behind it? Is the “fun” part really indispensable?

Dismaland was a Banksy’s version of Disneyland. The Bemusement Park was closed permanently the 27 September 2015. However, before closure of the exhibition Banksy taught us something. Also about tourism.

The theme park included rotten castle, boats full of refugees, and broken Cinderella’s carriage. Visitors were encouraged to taste cold chips and listen to other people’s cries. Still, 150,000 people from all around the planet visited it.

This caricature of contemporary society was an eye-opening experiment. For us, it showed that learning, discovering, and confronting inconvenient topics may be ass appealing as having fun.

As they say, he that travels far knows much!
